A return to Blossom NYC

Last month Dave and I had lunch at Blossom NYC for the first time.  Love at first bite.

Last weekend we returned, with another couple, for dinner.  The party of four consisted of one vegan (raising hand), one vegetarian (wife of my old college friend who I had not seen in nearly 25 years) and two omnivores (said old friend and the husband).

We feasted. First, the appetizers.

Sweet Potato Rolls (raw) ~ Stuffed with shredded coconut, jicama, carrot, red and yellow peppers, scallions, and avocado, with an almond ginger dipping sauce.
Porcini Flutes ~ Hand-rolled phyllo filled with porcini mushrooms, almonds, and ground tempeh, served over a cashew pesto, finished with pomegranate seeds.
Seitan Empanadas ~ Served with saffron aioli and a salad of avocado and hearts of palm.

Then, I had a blogger fail.  The guys both ordered the Seitan Scaloppini (Seitan cutlets in a white wine, lemon and caper sauce, served with mashed potatoes and sautéed kale) and I chose not to photograph it because I shared a photo in my Blossom lunch post. But I neglected to take a picture of the tofu dish my vegetarian friend enjoyed (she loved it).  But, naturally, I got a shot of my entrée:

The Seitan Marsala with Maitake mushrooms. Out. Of. This. World.

Everyone ordered dessert yet, again, I only took a picture of my own.

Fine, I’m not too proud to admit that after dinner Dave and I ducked into Cocoa V for a sweet treat…

…to eat the next day.  I swear!

Now that I have dined at Blossom for lunch and dinner, and Candle 79 for lunch and dinner, this is what I have to say. I love them both! So amazing!  Dave and I agree that Blossom is a bit more ideal for a “quiet” night –dare I say romantic and/or when you want to have quiet conversations with friends. It’s very intimate. Candle 79 is more hopping, lively and has a deep, full bar (as opposed to wine / beer only at Blossom). I love the options–because both are excellent!

  1. thanks for the blossom review – sounds like a must for our next NYC visit.  we were in new york for our honeymoon 2 years ago and had a lovely romantic dinner at candle 79.  i think it was a monday night that we were there and it was very quiet & intimate – could have been because we were just swooning over eachother, or maybe because of the fact it was a monday.  hah!
