And now for a SUPER-mini boule (Air Fryer Sourdough Boule, revisited)

Hey there bread making + air frying fans! I’m popping in quickly today to let you know that I took the Air Fryer Sourdough Boule recipe that I posted last week and cut that in half to create a super-mini air fryer sourdough boule… … for two! Ingredients: 1/2 cup sourdough starter, 1/2 cup unbleached flour, 1/8 cup whole wheat flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon caraway seeds, and 1 1/2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil. Method: I once again let it run through the 1:30-hour dough cycle (no heat) in the bread machine. I let it rise for three hours, punched […]

Vegan Listen List (July 12, 2017)

This summer I set a goal: Whenever possible, make my morning run/walk longer. Not for the exercise, but for the listening time. I’m having a podcast renaissance. See when you produce and host a weekly radio program, it’s hard to find time to listen to others. But just as they say good writers read, good audio content creators need to listen. And I have been. I’m currently binging on episodes of The Bearded Vegan. It’s such a great mix of vegan culture and commentary and they tackle tough issues. But I took a break from Andy and Paul this morning to […]

Meet the VeggiDome: a vegetable “cookie” jar! (get 10% off)

You guys! I, along with 1,200 people, supported an Indigogo campaign for a kitchen gadget – described as a cookie far for vegetables – last year and it’s here! Front and center on my kitchen counter! Meet the VeggiDome: Here’s how it works: The VeggiDome has four carefully designed pieces that balance moisture in the air. The lid vents natural ethylene gas that some produce emits and can accelerate spoilage. Although some fresh produce has been found to last weeks, if you have something in there that long, you’re not using it right! The VeggiDome is a server that should […]

Air Fryer Sourdough Boule

This might be one of my finest achievements. You may or may not know that if you want to air fry a traditional baked recipe the basic formula is this: Reduce the cooking temperature by 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut the baking time in half. Consequently, if you want to try any of my air fryer recipes here on this website or from my book The Vegan Air Fryer in the oven, increase the cooking temperature by 30 degrees and double the cooking time. I wrote a few months back about my sourdough obsession. I’m still a novice but I’m proud to […]

Lentil Potato Patties (air fryer recipe with baked option)

I’m experiencing a love affair with potatoes and it’s a bit of a cliche since so many people say the only thing they make in their air fryer is potatoes. But, hey, they cook up so good in the air fryer! I have a kale and potato nugget recipe in The Vegan Air Fryer (and it’s been shared on a few blogs with permission from the publisher, links here) that I’ve been making on the book tour because it’s so simple and super-tasty. When I created that recipe I realized that mashed potatoes could easily become a part of my weekend bulk cooking […]

Summer Salads {Creamy Vegan Avocado Dressing recipe}

Happy July! It’s been hot, hot, hot around here and, since we live in a 30-year old condo with no air conditioning, our meals have been pretty simple: huge salads with raw veggies topped with air fried or pressure cooked goodies. Why? Because using an electric pressure cooker (Instant Pot, GoWISE, Fagor, etc.) generates basically zero heat in the house and the air fryer cooks foods up quickly with very little heat, as well. Best of both worlds with raw and cooked foods! (I should note that the very first air fryer I purchased – and still use – is […]
