Will you play a game? (You could win a copy of Main Street Vegan and Vegan for Life!)

I know you are here.

I have Google Analytics and see you reading every single day (thank you!) but I’m not hearing too much from you here on the blog.

I do understand. I’m pretty active on Twitter and Facebook and I am engaged with many of you there. And I love that many of you who subscribe to this blog via email simply hit reply and a lively, private conversation ensues.

But sometimes I just need to know you’re right here – part of this community. Because I’m genuinely interested in why you are here and I wholeheartedly believe that we all learn from each other when we share experiences or opinions.

So here’s the game.

In one word, or one sentence, tell me why you read this blog or what you would like to see more of on this blog.

What do you get in return? Well, in addition to my deep appreciation, your comment will enter you to win a copy of both of my favorite book referrals for my coaching clients, Main Street Vegan and Vegan for Life.

  1. I’m a new Vegan and your site has been SO helpful with the transition from my Vegetarian diet.

    1. I like to learn about what it’s like living in Colorado Springs (YAY pictures!!) and would like to see more posts on how to monetize veganism (how to start small business step-by-step, marketing, etc.)

  2. You inspire me every day with your activism and educational posts. I love learning about what you’re doing for the animals and for veganism, learning more about how to be a joyful vegan and what you’re up to. Ooops, way more than one word! Okay: one: inspiration. Two: information. Three: thank you!! 😀

  3. I read every post and feel like commenting every time would be a bit of overkill, as I usually don’t have much to add. You are informative and I learn new things, mostly from the posts in which you wrap up the week with great links.

  4. J.L., I come to your site to look at recipes but more importantly for support. I am a new Vegan. Recently my acupuncturist and my trainer have both told me to eat animal products, they both tried to tell me that animal protein was more readily available to my body than plant protein. I like and respect both these women and it was upsetting to realize how prejudiced and uninformed they are. I live in a relatively small town, I came here to go to graduate school, my family is not nearby, I don’t know that many people, so I don’t have a lot of support as I work to change my life.

    1. @11a1dbf3105cce7cd0d7b35b73603cd2:disqus , I’m so glad you brought this up. I think a lot of us have had doctors try to talk us out of a vegan diet. Finding a vegan-friendly medical doctor could alleviate some of your concerns.

  5. One word: Jackfruit

One Sentence: It was extremely yummy! 🙂

Speaking of which, I might make it for supper tonight.

PS. I love the “This week’s vegan links and news” too! 🙂

  6. More whole foods posts and recipes as well as urban garden posts, please. Appreciate the real world example and your passion.

  7. I like reading about your personal journey and the wonderful opportunities that have come your way!

  8. I read because I am vegan and also interested in becoming a coach. I also like hearing the perspective of someone else with a non-vegan husband!

  9. I must admit that I don’t read your blog all the time, but I do stop by periodically to check out your recipes and get some ideas for meals/dishes I want to try to recreate in my own kitchen.

  10. We seem to be on similar path so I can relate to what you write: You are my age; have a healthy way of looking at weight which is a refreshing change; have a non-vegan but supportive partner; and I enjoy your realistic, honest reflections. Your recipes and educational pieces are very helpful and you continue to remind us of the ethical reasons behind a plant-based diet. In addition, you had the opportunity to work with Ginny Messina which rocks! Thanks for doing what you do.

  11. I read because I always feel inspired by your passion, entranced by your recipes, and renewed in my attempts to keep eating better and more animal-free : )

  12. Your posts are always accesible to (new) vegans and your recipes are not too hard to make, plus I like the way you write. 🙂

  13. I became a vegetarian slowly last year, and now, I am learning more about becoming a vegan through your site. It is difficult because there are some foods we learned as children that ‘we must eat,’ and I STILL get hounded by my mom to eat meat. (I am an adult, but always a child in her eyes.)

Tomorrow I take my five precepts at the Buddhist Monastery, which is one of the reasons why I became a vegetarian. Your posts encourage me that I can do this. Learning to eat a balanced meal, while getting the nutrition is so important, and I thank you for this blog.

  14. You make it real. I’m new at the whole vegetarian/vegan lifestyle and my meat-loving husband is making the journey with me. I want recipes that will appeal to him (even more than myself) and you have so many ideas. My next step will be to decide on the pressure cooker.

  15. I’m transitioning to a plant-based lifestyle and am a runner–the runner part is how I found my way here 🙂

  16. I love your blog for the recipes but would like to see more recipes using less “processed” vegan food.

    1. I think I have you mistaken with someone else, J.L. regarding the processed foods. Sorry! 🙁

      1. @4a0575c5b8eb8bf075ff0f24ea8e1b07:disqus No worries! I do use processed foods. And I also use whole foods. Balance! 🙂

    2. @5a0ae07669e3a31f42d6ed032d75f348:disqus No worries! I do use processed foods. And I also use whole foods. Balance! 🙂

  17. I read vegan blogs to feel less isolated. Could use tips on maintaining my vegan lifestyle and pointers on not getting discouraged when I can’t (financially) keep up with the daily updates of companies/products to avoid and all the cool, but less face it, expensive alternatives. Thanks.

  18. I’ve finally bought a pressure cooker, and I’m thrilled to have access to recipes! Plus, I appreciate the frequency of your posting and flow of information – it’s a good mix of ethical animal treatment, recipes and general information.

  19. I started reading your blog for the yummy pressure cooker (and other) recipes. Now I also love following your Denver and CSprings adventures because I’m local!

  20. I like your recipes, and I’ve enjoyed reading about your career journey and move across the country, but the thing I like most is your honesty! I’ve been vegan for less than a year, so I can relate to your “slip-ups”, as I’ve had a few similar incidents. It’s frustrating to believe you are eating vegan food only to find out the food includes eggs, dairy or worse! I really like your “progress, not perfection” attitude!

  21. I read on email. More cats and chocolate. Or whatever. I like most things you write about except seitan. 😉

  22. I read your blog because I’ve turned to vegan lifestyle just a few weeks ago and in desperate need for some guidance! Becoming a vegan has been challenging, to say the least. I was very greatful for your posts about the vitamin requirements and your struggles with vitamin B12 levels, especially as I don’t eat any foods fortified with B12. Also I love that you’re active on Facebook as it provides me reminders of why I went vegan in the first place (for animal’s sake) and gives me the courage to stand my ground when my lovely relatives, friends, and collegues express their concern over my choice.

  23. I follow you on FB, but the blog can catch me up on what happened all week if I forgot to bookmark – plus I can search for other recipes.

  24. I’m not into Twitter or Facebook, but I do read this blog via rss/google reader and often go back to older posts for info.

  25. I love your blog because of the good recipe ideas and insight on the workouts and work you do. You left the “job an adult is supposed to have” and followed your heart and have become someone living their passion. Your journey reminds me fulfillment IS possible at any stage in life.

  26. One sentence: Your encouragement, information and practical
ways to get plant based food on the table, easily and quickly, so that it is
practical for a working mom is a BLESSING.

More sentences: Your kind encouraging attitude toward people expressing that it is good every time a person moves closer to cruelty free in this life. I feel encouraged not condemned because I am not perfect. (More importantly, I want to learn to love kale. Oh,
and news and links to other cool information & recipes.)

  27. I find the guidance and advice very helpful as a new vegan and I feel that you are thoughtful about where you get your information from, making sure that it is from reliable sources.

  28. I read this blog because I love the whole food vegan recipes that help me avoid processed food! Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

  29. i read your blog because you have healthy and interesting and easy (!!!) vegan recipes. because you cook for your hubby who isnt a total vegan (been there). because you moved to colorado and i really enjoy your photos (dream future location). i read it because you rock!

  30. Your’s was the first vegan blog I came across after my husband made the leap to all vegan. Your recipes are awesome. You inspire me.

  31. I read your blog because you make me buy stuff like winter coats, pressure cookers, and cookbooks. 🙂 Oh yeah and just because you’re awesome! Cheers! We miss you in NY.

  32. I read your blog because I LOVE your enthusiasm! You make a vegan lifestyle look fun and effortless. Your approach to meal planning and bulk cooking is an inspiration to me. I don’t have any friends that are vegan so I really appreciate all the info and discussions. (PS-I have both of these truly excellent books, so if you pick my name please give the books to a struggling, new vegan.)

  33. In a few sentences. Guilty as charged. I’m the world’s best lurker. I need to become the world’s best reader!

I love your blog. Your honesty, especially, and your ability to show your true colors no matter what.

I enjoy reading about your adventures. Meeting people, educating yourself, just being you. I hope I can find you at Vida Vegan, because I really want to meet you in person!

  34. Your bulk cooking and electronic appliances make me feel less alone in cooking and give me great ideas and your weekly links/news are interesting.

  35. Hi…yes I read all the time but rarely leave a comment. I like your attitude and your energy. Oh and your kitties. Since we don’t have a cat anymore, I get my cat fix where I can 🙂

  36. I recently found your blog and like to read because you take a balanced approach to veganism and inject realism and humour into your posts, which is enjoyable. Plus I get inspired by your recipes.

  37. Your perspective is fresh and appealing–you care about health but also have fun with junk food, you continue to let us in on your journeys in veganism and desire to live a more compassionate lifestyle, and your sincerity really shines through.

    Thank you JL!

  38. I am a vegetarian and aspiring vegan. I love the recipes and pictures and how simple you make veganism seem. I also love hearing about how you and your omnivore husband work together – I live with 2 diehard meat eaters who snub their nose at my food and concern for animals.

  39. i read because I want to know more-been vegan all mylife 34 and want to know how others do it and why?!! thanks

  42. My husband and I have been vegan for just a little over a year. You are so inspiring and keep us motivated to keep trying new things! Keep up the great work that you produce on here. Looking forward to more 🙂

  43. I evolved into veganism about 18 months ago when I realized that being kind and compassionate to all sentient beings is of supreme importance to me. Your posts help others on their journey and it is greatly appreciated. I love all the wonderful recipes, insight and links to other terrific stuff that you post! Thank you and Namaste’.

  44. I just discovered your site. I’m reading your blog because I’m still astonished by the new world that has opened up to me since becoming vegan about a month and a half ago. My enthusiasm seems to be spreading because two friends of mine (along with their 4 year old) just a couple of days ago decided to go vegan and now are coming to me for advice and I’m like hey, I’m still new too! My partner is happily eating vegan alongside me, although considers himself vegetarian at this point. I’m embracing my new worldview and thank you for the great site loaded as it is with much helpful information. (Sorry, that was more than one word or sentence)

  45. I read your blog for information on a vegan diet as well as new recipes. I love to learn as much as I can on the subject. I’ve read Main Street Vegan and enjoyed it. I’d love to read Vegan for Life.

  46. I read your blog to keep myself on the vegan “track” – frequent reminders about veganism, recipes, etc. help me maintain my focus!

  47. I have both of these books so you needn’t enter me in the giveaway, but I just wanted to say hi and say that I read your blog because you rock. I also love seeing what you’re up to in the kitchen. 🙂

  48. I’m here for the food, I love hearing about it. Exercise is also interesting to me.
The activism is the part of the blog I frequently skip–it feels like you may be preaching to the choir?

  49. I’m here for the food and the recipes and chance to win these books – woo! I have SO SO MANY PEOPLE in my life who need them and who I wish I could afford to give them to!!

  50. i appreciate your *persistently positive perspective* (yes, i love alliteration). it’s so easy to become discouraged, and cynical in a largely non-vegan world!

  51. I read your blog because you have wonderful recipes and I love all the valuable information I learn from you!

  52. As someone who became a vegetarian (and now vegan) in my mid to late 40s I find inspiration from you since you changed your life at my age, plus I enjoy your cooking tips and that you use foods that I’m not always familiar with so I can be inspired to try new things.

  53. Inspirational and inviting. —Your approach to vegan living and lifestyle isn’t intimidating or scary. The recipes are always eye appealing and leads me to wanting to know more about eatig beautiful and healthy.

  54. You inspire me to keep striving to be a better, healthier vegan – and to keep trying new and different foods and recipes.

  55. I love to learn new recipe ideas, and because I am from a small town, I find your suggestions for dealing with non-vegans to be very helpful!
