What a whirlwind few days of vegan travel! Wednesday afternoon I flew out of Denver
but now before getting tofu scramble at Root Down DIA!
I landed in New York Wednesday at 4 pm.
I was greeted by these adorable pups at Chez Vegan Mos (my best friends’ Ethan and Michael’s home).
By 7 pm we were at the fabulous Mercy for Animals Art Auction
where I finally got to meet activist Donny Moss of Their Turn and the compassionate and activist and fabulous fashion designer John Bartlett and hug and squeeze Jasmin Singer of Our Hen House.
After the event we dashed uptown where I got to experience dinner at the new uptown Blossom. Hosted by animal activists extraordinaire Alexander Gray and David Cabrera.
The next morning I was up early to teach at the Main Street Vegan Academy!
I caught the end of the always inspiring animal rights session by Jasmin and Mariann.
before presenting “How to turn your Vegan Lifestyle Coach and Educator credential into a viable career.”
From there I was off to Candle Cafe West
where I got to squeeze and hug the always generous Joy Pierson, owner of the Candles, enjoy the special Penne Bolognese (seitan), and meet with Jasmin and Mariann and Our Hen House advisory board Jane Velez-Mitchell.
Later Ethan and Michael and I were off to Bluestockings for the launch of Ecofeminism: Feminist Intersections with Other Animals and the Earth.
Of course I grabbed a copy
and enjoyed hearing from Carol J. Adams, Kim Stallwood, and others.
Meeting Carol, author of The Sexual Politics of Meat, was a huge thrill. Equally thrilling was Carol asking, “when is your pressure cooking book coming out? I want to learn how to use mine!” I invited her to come to Colorado Springs for a personal lesson!
I couldn’t resist getting a picture of Victoria Moran snuggling this little rat.
I had a chance to finally say hello, in person, to Martin Rowe, editor of Lantern Books‘ Running, Eating, Thinking: A Vegan Anthology (I wrote the chapter entitled “A Well-Rounded Vegan.”) After quick hi’s and bye’s we walked through Chinatown to Buddha Bodai for vegan Chinese food. Oh. Yum.
And now I’m off to the airport, en route to the Atlanta Veg Fest where I’ll be sharing Sunshine Burger samples and hanging out with one of my favorite people on earth, Ginny Messina, my co-author of Vegan for Her. And maybe, just maybe, I can catch a nap on the plane.
I’m tired.
And grateful and happy and devoted, more than ever, to change the world for animals!
