Niagara, NYC, and returning home (to an urban garden!)

What a week! After a whirlwind few days away I returned home very late Tuesday night. So Wednesday I laid way low. I’m back at it today and thought I’d share a bit about the weekend through photos and video.

I flew to Buffalo, NY Saturday and rented a car for my short drive to St. Catharines, Ontario.

Canada

First up (after Keri Cronin, one of the Niagara VegFest organizers, dropped cooking supplies and ingredients by my hotel) was dinner with Keri and Laurie Morrison (the other fest co-organizer), volunteers and fellow speakers. We dined at Rise Above. Meet the organizers (video):

Rise Above potato salad and wings

Green bean and potato salad with seitan buffalo wings.

Rise Above cheesecake

Strawberry cheesecake.

Sunday it was all about the VegFest! I woke up early and prepared a huge batch of Umami Anasazi Beans in advance of my demo. Then I was off to the festival!

It was great to see Gene Baur again. His talk was excellent (you see a video clip here).

Hello vegan s'mores and vegan wine

I wound down (or up?!) with a glass of vegan wine and a s’more. Mmm Mmm.

Monday I was up early to drive back to Buffalo where I caught a flight to NYC. I treated myself to a delicious lunch at Blossom on Columbus.

Blossom on Columbus

Raw sweet potato rolls and a Tofu BLT sandwich.

Tuesday I taught at the Main Street Vegan Academy and flew home to Colorado later that night.

On Wednesday morning I got to check out the urban garden Dave started for me while I was gone. I talk you through my greened-up deck  in this video:

Last night CK welcomed me home properly by showing a bit of her agility tricks before beds (Ernie makes a cameo):

And now I officially feel like I’m home, sweet, home.

My travel is going to resume to “normal” business travel, versus all of the book tour flurry, and I’m really looking forward to more time at home. And in my kitchen!

  1. I so need to see St Catherine’s seeing as I’m in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area every October

    1. @demetriusbagley:disqus, you must! I can connect you to Keri and Laurie, and awesome power-vegan couple! In addition to all-vegan Rise Above, the Merchant Ale House has a vegan fried green tomato sandwich (you’re welcome) and buffalo wings and there is an all-vegan doughnut shop!

  2. JL “laid way low.” Did I read that correctly? 🙂 Funny that Dave was in Austin with Masters swimming!

  3. JL! Where’s the new nooch vessel?? Pretty perfect to match your kitchen, right? I made such a lengthy and compelling argument – I want to see it!!! ;-D
