The 6+ hour drive (!!!) to vegan delights

Yesterday I hopped in my car for what should have been a 2 hour and 45 minute drive (with a swing through Newark, NJ to pick up a friend) from Westchester County, NY to Jim Thorpe.  But that didn’t happen.

It took three hours to drive 22 miles.  I kid you not.  Six and a half hours later we pulled up to FLOW Bar + Restaurant.  We were greeted by this wonderful, kind, happy chef.

My friend Elaine and I had a lovely visit with Chef Zachary Pelliccio and The Stabin Morykin Buidling owners Joan Morykin and Victor Stabin (all are terribly excited about TONIGHT’S big event – the 10-course vegan tasting dinner)!  Zach whipped us up a dinner made up of several plates of healthy (and one naughty) vegan eats to nourish our travel weary bodies.  We started with fried pickles with vegan ailoi – because it had to be done!

Then, to redeems ourselves, we feasted on a gorgeous, fresh salad of mixed greens, fresh dill and cranberries along with lentils and quinoa with sweet peas and asparagus.

With happy, full bellies we made our way to the gorgeous loft apartment above the gallery and slept like babies.

We have awakened to a bright, sunny day and are heading out for a trail run this morning.  In twelve hours over 50 hungry folks will arrive for Vegan Cuisine:  A Simple Art – can’t wait!

  1. Three hours to go 22 miles?  That’s crazy!  I know your pain from living in Los Angeles for many years.  It’s no fun to make an already long trip longer!  Those fried pickles look indulgently delicious.  Have a wonderful time tonight!

    1. I sure don’t understand traffic – but I do know that I will check Google maps before deciding which way I’m going back into Manhattan tomorrow!

  2. Wow on the traffic, so sorry and how frustrating! The food looks amazing, I’ve never tried fried pickles. Hope tonight is a blast and I’m jealous!
