Next month marks a special occasion: my three-year anniversary as a Main Street Vegan Academy vegan lifestyle coach and educator.
I realized this when chatting with Victoria Moran recently. Victoria is the author of numerous books, including Main Street Vegan and most recently the The Good Karma Diet (enter to win a copy of her book here), She launched her vegan lifestyle coach and educator Academy in 2012 and I’m honored to have attended the inaugural training.
I wrote about that experience here on the blog:
- Day 1: Main Street Vegan Academy
- Day 2: Main Street Vegan Academy (Nutrition, Shopping + Vegan Junk Food)
- Day 3: Main Street Vegan Academy (What vegans eat and what this vegan ate)
- JL Fields, VLCE (or, Main Street Vegan Academy conclusion)
I cannot believe the profound impact the Main Street Vegan Academy has had on me. Three years later: a cross-country move, two books, finding my way in a new community, a monthly vegan dining review in the local paper, and an entire new career.
I’m even on the advisory board, and faculty, of the Academy now. I travel back to NYC four to five times a year to teach a session on how new coaches can use their certification to build a viable career following their vegan passion.
Even cooler? The number of people who read this blog, or attended local cooking and lifestyle classes with me, who enrolled in the Academy and became Main Street Vegan VLCE’s, too. Like Ashley, Sarah, and Matt.

When Victoria and I were reflecting on the first three years of the Academy – and my evolution from trainee to VLCE to advisory/faculty member – we decided to do something fun. I am offering a special Friends of the Academy discount for the August 2015 training (August 7 – 12)! Apply between May 19 and June 19, use the code “JLBlog” in your cover email, and you will receive $250 off tuition! (Available only to new applicants applying for the August class.).
Read all about the Academy here and then apply here: http://mainstreetvegan.net/online-application/
I want to note that I receive absolutely no compensation for offering this discount. This is simply a gift to you because I love everything that Victoria is doing to help people follow their passion – which helps animals, the environment, and humans.
If you’ve ever considered finding a way to build your vegan passion and compassion into your career, consider becoming a vegan lifestyle coach and educator. The Main Street Vegan Academy training is a transformative experience. Questions about my experience as a VLCE? Email me!

This August will be my 2 year anniversary as a VLCE! It was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. I’ve connected with so many like minded people personally and professionally. I learned a ton about living a conscious & compassionate lifestyle and continue to build on that knowledge. It opened my mind and my heart and has changed me in many ways. Now, my Image Consulting business focuses on cruelty free choices (www.itfactorimage.nyc) and I have launched my own cruelty free fashion & beauty magazine LA Fashionista Compassionista (www.lafcnyc.com). Victoria was the cover story for our first issue! – Adrienne Borgersen
You are a vegan dynamo, @itfactorimage:disqus / Adrienne! I have enjoyed watching your coaching practice and magazine unfold to such wonderful success!
This June will be my 2 year MSVA anniversary! Learning and being inspired with my class and Victoria was an experience I will never forget. Those fun filled 5 days helped me to finally begin my journey as a Naturopath. I had always wanted to explore this type of alternative medicine, and I felt utterly committed to my vegan lifestyle after Victoria’s course. I began researching different programs offered around the world and finally enrolled in the College of Naturopathic Medicine in Belfast, Ireland this past October. Combining the plant based lifestyle with alternative medicine is the Perfect blend of health and wellness for your body the animals and the planet. I would honestly not be on this path if not for the enlightening MSVA program. Much love to the MSVA family and all future grads!!!
@treehousechatter:disqus, this is so inspiring! Thank you for sharing how the MSVA experience has influenced your career path! And best of luck in your studies!
I’m an August 2014 graduate and was completely impressed by Victoria’s program (including your knock ’em dead presentation JL). I highly recommend it. It is not only educational, but truly inspiring in a way that only face to face experiences can be.
Oh, thanks, Teresa, and I completely agree that the training is inspirational! I became even more rooted in my veganism as a result!
I attended the Academy last month and it was such a wonderful experience! I learned so much about all aspects of a vegan lifestyle, and I also relished the opportunity to connect (and enjoy New York City!) with my like-minded fellow students and the inspiring instructors. I am excited to continue sharing the vegan message on my blog (www.lindaarcuriyoga.com/blog) and with my yoga students, and eventually with coaching clients. I also hope to help fellow vegan professionals spread their message effectively using the writing and editing skills I have gained through my 19 years as a Drug Information Specialist and technical writer. I highly recommend Main Street Vegan Academy to anyone who is passionate about the vegan lifestyle!
@Linda_Arcuri:disqus, I’m so excited to see how your coaching practice grows. You are going to be amazing!
My training through Main Street Vegan Academy was last summer, and it was life changing. I met the most incredibly talented and inspiring professionals, each more fascinating than the last. They opened my eyes to new ways we can work together toward a vegan world. The MSVA training helped me really grasp (both personally and
professionally) that the possibilities for each of us are limitless. We each have our own role to play in this mission – and it helped me begin to discover and define mine. Now as a VLCE, I have the privilege of working with individual clients as they transition toward a vegan lifestyle, full of joy, compassion, good health, and good food. I feel more creative and enthusiastic than ever, and recently completed additional training to become a Certified Personal Chef. I also teach several heart-healthy vegan cooking
classes at a local community college, I write the “Honestly Vegan” column for Honest Cooking, and I blog at Ann Arbor Vegan Kitchen (http://annarborvegankitchen.com)!
– Vicki Brett-Gach
@AnnArborVeganKitchen:disqus, you are a powerhouse! I really loved your newspaper column, too (that’s how I first found out about you – sharing your recipes in my Vegan News You Can Use!). I think you bring up such a great point – so many of us complete the training and then do unique things with it. Which is why I love that there is no sense of competition. We’re a family encouraging one another to go out into our individual communities and make vegan action happen!
I attended the August 2014 class and can only recommend it. It was full of valuable information and truly inspirational. It was great to meet other vegan students from various parts of the world as well as some truly inspirational professionals. After the class I felt like there is a real good network out there that I could rely on if I needed advice or had questions. The class gave me the confidence to start working on my own vegan business. Which I am launching later this year.
@michaelagrob:disqus, that’s fantastic! I can’t wait to see what you do!
Hi JL, sister classmate from the first-ever Main Street Vegan Academy! Living vegan now for almost 7 years has informed my entire life. It definitely inspired my new life coaching business – http://www.simplesizeme.net – which helps people drop what’s excess, unhealthy, and unecessary from their lives to create a leaner, lighter, kinder way of living. I treasure my affiliation with Vegan Lifestyle Coaches and Educators and love our continuing meet-ups that are so valuable and fun…with NYC coming up tomorrow night for Victoria’s book launch!
Doesn’t it feel like a lifetime ago, @carolmaemillerschneider:disqus? And yesterday! I’ve loved watching your personal and professional journey. Inspiring!
I finished MSVA just last month, and it was amazing. The instructors are really top-notch (shout out to JL!) and Victoria is a vegan guru and all-around great person. The class motivated me to really get to work on my website (www.cruelty-freeme.com) and to get serious about getting our vegan and cruelty-free soap company rolling. My wife and I are working hard to get that up and running around August of this year.
The MSVA class is also just plain fun, and the people you meet will inspire you.
I cannot wait for your company to launch, @cruelty_free_me:disqus! I’m first in line to order!
I did MSVA in June 2013 and it was one of the very best decisions I have ever made. I wanted to be able to speak articulately about veganism when my novel (BONES & ALL, a novel about cannibals that will hopefully get readers thinking about meat eating as *flesh* eating) came out, and now I’m developing several other veg-focused writing projects (both fiction and nonfiction). Learned a lot, felt empowered by what I learned, and made friends for life. Thank you, Victoria!!! <3
This is proof that what we do with our education and certification is so unique, @cometparty:disqus/Camille! Can’t wait to learn more about your writing projects!
I first learned about Main Street Vegan Academy through JL Goes Vegan! The MSVA program has been transformational to my vegan lifestyle and opened up enormous professional opportunities. Since completing the program a year ago, I’ve expanded my blog (www.homemadelevity.com), developed an online course, launched a vegan lifestyle coaching service and am even extending my veganism to my user experience design offerings. Connecting with people and helping them transform their lives through veganism has been deeply rewarding, and never would have happened without the academy. And, the MSVA network of vegan professionals continues to inspire me on a daily basis.
@homemadelevity:disqus, your blog is beautiful and so informative. And I LOVE the online offerings! You are rockin’ it!
Aw, Thank you, @JL. You’ve been a big inspiration!
I attended the MSVA in August in 2014 after having recently “retired” from a job that spanned over 25 years. I had no big expectations coming into the Academy, I had been vegan for a few years and merely wanted to learn more. Little did I know how my life would be transformed by the experience. Inspired by the other attendees, Victoria, the other speakers, the information, the overall experience fueled a passion in me that has ignited into an exciting and fulfilling second career. A career that allows me to utilize my passions and strengths, while allowing me to put forth my vegan activism as the centerpiece. Never in a million years would I ever imagine that I’d be teaching people how to live a vegan lifestyle, creating recipes and teaching people how to cook, supporting animal welfare and environmental groups, organizing vegan Meetups, mentoring and counseling other vegan entrepreneurs, and launching a vegan cowboy boot company. MSVA gives you the tools to take your own passion, experience and special talents out into the world and make it happen. I’m so grateful for the having the opportunity and the continued support of Victoria and all the other MVSA Alumni who have become my family. http://www.katmendenhall.com
Kat, what you have done in such a short period of time is simply amazing. You do all of your work with passion and zeal and it is contagious!
I am already registered for the August session this year and am so excited and inspired by all the comments and your enthusiasm for the course! August can’t come fast enough.
I can’t wait to meet you in August!
