JL in Print, Katie Couric, and a Soyrizo & Bean Burrito

It’s one of those days. I’m grinning ear to ear.

When I was invited to write a weekly column for my local paper’s online food section, I jumped at the chance.  A vegan column?  Yes!  My editor told me that on occasion they may choose to run one of my columns in the print edition of The Journal News. So far, they have printed teasers about the online column. Like yesterday’s teaser about TODAY’S twitter chat.

But guess what happened today?

My column, in print!

Friends, I cannot tell you how this makes my heart swell with joy and pride. Joy that my local paper embraces a vegan column! Pride that I can now call myself a print journalist! (Right? I have a byline!)  What a bonus, that my editor is hosting a twitter chat today at 12:00 p.m. EST!  )I will answer your questions on how to learn to use—and love—your pressure cooker.)  I hope you will join us!

Speaking of Twitter, and reasons to grin, yesterday I learned that Katie Couric is the keynote speaker for BlogHer ’12 in August and I tweeted my excitement.

Guess what?  Katie tweeted me back!

Swoon!

Finally, let me share one more reason to grin from ear to ear.  My husband, the omnivore, offered to make us a vegan dinner this weekend.

That image alone is grin-worthy.

But this?

Soyrizo and black beans, sautéed in olive oil, garlic and red pepper flakes. Served on a whole wheat tortilla with lettuce, tomato and shredded soy cheese.

Delicious and grin-worthy. Dave is grinning today, too. His latest article for USA Triathlon – Improving Your Bike To Run Efficiency with a Brick Workout – is up!

What’s making you grin today?

I work at a alt-newspaper, and while they occasionally let me cover vegan stuff, I can’t imagine how awesome a regular vegan column would be! Sweet! And awesome news about Dave! I wish my omni partner would cook me a vegan meal one night. I may have to show him your post and hint around it. 🙂
