Good morning from beautiful Manhattan!
As most of you know, I live in metro-NYC. One of my favorite things to do as a local is to play “tourist” in the city. My friend Lee (who I met in Philly earlier this summer) decided to join me in Manhattan for a vegan cooking class at the Natural Gourmet Institute. We took it a step further and decided to get a hotel and have a girl’s weekend.
I plan to write more about the class next week (Daniel and Brandy, you’ll be in that post!) but for now, here’s me with our instructor, Robin Asbell.
She is a fabulous instructor. I bought her new book Big Vegan–so excited to try out more of her great recipes!
We feasted on this…
…and yes, it was as incredible as it looks!
Can’t wait to tell you more about the class and the food but Lee and I have some coffee to drink, some shopping to do and then we’re meeting a group of very special friends (think vegan cookbook authors and bloggers!) at Candle 79 for lunch.
Have a great Saturday!

Sounds like such a nice escape. And the vegan cooking class sounds awesome; can’t wait to hear more! Have a fabulous weekend!
looks amazing!!! what an awesome opportunity. we went to candle (cafe, not 79) on our last night in nyc. its truly the best.
Wow. You do live an exciting life! I haven’t been to NYC in years and I miss the excitement. One of these days …
I love cooking classes! and look at you – rockin’ your VVC tee ! 🙂
Wow, that looks SO earthy and yummy and healthy. You live in the best city!
Looks great I should say! Yum! you made me hungry!
Oh my goodness, JL, I have been reading through your blog and not only are you a vegan, you’re a power vegan! And I am looking forward to hearing your take on the class. It was so much fun meeting you and making that soba noodle salad together. It sounds like Lee and you had a fabulous big vegan weekend in New York. But remember, no vegan can truly say she’s “done” New York until she’s eaten at the Michelin-rated vegan restaurant Kajitsu.
P.S. I love that you’re a marathoner and triathlete. I will be running my first half-marathon on Oct 1.
Daniel! It was so much fun cooking with you last weekend! I promise to get my post up soon–life gets in the way of my blogging 🙂
Your first half-marathon! Which one are you running?! Good luck with it (oh, I replied and we’re now friends on Facebook — I’ll catch up with you there!)
