What a year!
When I woke up on January 1, 2010 I had no idea this would be the year I would finally transition from vegetarian to vegan. I just knew I didn’t feel like myself. I signed up for my first-ever cleanse, with a nutrition counselor, which required eliminating dairy. By the end of the cleanse I realized I was an egg away from being a vegan. So I stopped eating eggs.
I started reading lots of vegan / food blogs and books and stocked my kitchen with healthy vegan foods. I fell in love with cooking, for the first time in my 45 years.
In February and March I trained for what I planned to be my first of three half-marathons for the year. (I suffered a knee injury in 2009 and decided that I would not triathlon in 2010).
In April I ran the MORE Magazine Half-Marathon in pouring rain and frigid temperatures. The horrible weather (and hard race) were all worth it because I was treated to my first ever meal, brunch, at Candle 79
post-race. I was hooked on this fabulous restaurant, as witnessed here, here and here.
In May I resumed training, this time for a June half-marathon, and began toying with the idea of blogging about my vegan transition.
In June I wrote a guest post on Cook.Vegan.Lover. and I subsequently launched this blog. I also ran a less than stellar half-marathon in Fairfield, CT.
During the months of July, August and September I cooked, I blogged, I traveled and I ran. In August I suddenly found myself a student again; twenty years post-masters degree, I enrolled in a two-year, advanced graduate certificate program.
In October, I bagged my final half-marathon of the year because my right IT band was troubling me and I refused to end my season injured. In addition to working full-time at a local college and taking a class on Tuesday evenings, I taught a five-week course in nonprofit management at a local university on Monday evenings.
In November and December I cooked, I blogged (like crazy for Vegan MoFo!), I traveled and I pretty much did NOT work out.
All in all, it was a very good year!
