Vegans Eat What? Meet the organization!

Over the next few months I plan to introduce you to the activists in local communities with whom I’m working on the Vegan Pressure Cooking book tour. First up: Kris Giovanini, founder of the nonprofit Vegans Eat What?, tells you about her organization. If you’re in the Denver, CO area, please join me on Sunday, February 1, for a Vegan Pressure Cooking 101 Class and Luncheon, a fundraiser for this wonderful nonprofit!

Vegans Eat What?

Many myths surround a plant-based diet. One myth is that it is restrictive. Another myth is that it is boring. Nothing could be further from the truth. One of the best things about being vegan is the food! Once people become familiar with the food vegans actually eat, as opposed to what they think we eat, they are almost always shocked by the diversity and deliciousness of a plant-based diet.

Only about 3% of the adult population in the United States currently consume a vegan diet. So how do we show people who are not yet vegan the delicious truth about plant-based/vegan diets? In response to that question, VegansEatWhat? (“’VEW”) was formed in 2013 and became a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization in early 2014.

Every vegan has been asked, “what the bleep do you eat”? VegansEatWhat? is dedicated to answering that question by sharing recipes for great tasting vegan food as well as how-to advice and original articles for vegans, vegetarians, and the veg-curious. All of the recipes on the website have been tested and enjoyed by a wide variety of people, including long-time vegans and those who are not yet vegan.

VEW is also a resource for other aspects of plant-based diets including replacements for animals & animal by-products and dining out. Veganseatwhat? publishes an E-Newsletter and writes vegan cookbook reviews. It also sponsors and participates in classes, events and festivals that promote the deliciousness, diversity and benefits of plant-based/vegan diets.

VegansEatWhat? is participating in a vegan pressure cooking class in Denver on February 1, which will be taught and prepared by JL Fields in connection with her new cookbook Vegan Pressure Cooking. In addition to the class, attendees will be served a vegan lunch and all food will be prepared in a pressure cooker!

As an all-volunteer organization, VeganEatWhat? is fortunate to have dedicated individuals who give generously of their time and talent by contributing regularly with blogs, recipes, testing and reviews. With the resources and recipes on VegansEatWhat.com, anyone can prepare a wide assortment of delicious plant-based/vegan meals.

Pleasure and eating come together on a vegan diet.  I hope you will visit VegansEatWhat.com soon.  Check out the recipes and resources and please subscribe to our E-Newsletter.  Help us spread the word that vegan diets are deliciously diverse!

Warmly,

Kris Giovanini  JD/MBA
