Good morning, friends! It’s been awhile since I have posted on a Sunday and, sad to say, still no “vegan news you can use” today. This has been my first weekend home in five weeks and I’m drinking it in! I co-taught a class on quick and easy plant-based meals for kids. Once the class wrapped up I told myself ‘no work for 36 hours’! And I just might stick to it. 😉
I’m heading out for a hike this morning with my friend Barb of That Was Vegan? and am really looking forward to it. Six months ago Dave and I moved to Colorado. I had no idea that we would make such good, wonderful friends so quickly. She is one of many people who welcomed me warmly and I’m grateful. Colorado felt like home pretty much the minute we drove across the state line
I launched my coaching and education practice a few months later and have taught vegan lifestyle and cooking classes, started kitchen coaching and home-cooked meal services, and even wrote my first free-lance piece for the local alternative weekly. By the way, my next Colorado Springs class – Saturday, June 22 – is a Summer Soups & Salad Cooking Demo Class. I will provide a full lunch featuring two soups, two salads, vegan wine! (Register here.)
A few months ago I was named Lead Organizer of the Colorado Springs Vegan and Vegetarian Group Meetup and have been having so much planning events to help people go vegan, or stay vegan, with my new friends on the leadership team. We have some fun things coming up (group calendar is here) and I’m really excited about a grocery store tour I’m doing on Sunday, June 29, which will benefit Vegan Life Colorado.
With such a warm welcome to Colorado it didn’t take me long to realize that this was the most natural, perfect place to celebrate the publication of Vegan for Her: The Woman’s Guide to Being Healthy and Fit on a Plant-Based Diet.
My dear friend and co-author Ginny Messina agreed, so we have some fun, fun, fun things coming up in Colorful Colorado!
- July 6 and 7: VegFest Colorado. Just three days before Vegan for Her is available Ginny and I will have a table at VegFest (I’ll see you Saturday; Ginny and I will both be there Sunday) and we will do a cooking demo and presentation on Sunday.
- July 8: Book Signing in Denver. Our friend Joshua LaBure is hosting our Denver author and book signing event at his fabulous store NOOCH in Denver!
- July 9: Workshop for Women, Benefiting Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary in Colorado Springs. This is the day! The official “available” date, and Ginny and I wanted to do something special. Ginny is going to be with me, in my new home of Colorado Springs, and we are going to offer a special workshop for women, a benefit for rescued farm animals. Simply make a $10 donation to participate in the workshop and you will gain entry to our private book launch party! (It’s easy to register: become a member of the Meetup then RSVP to the event!)
- July 10: Public Book Signing in Colorado Springs. Details to come; save the date!
Colorado, thank you for the warm welcome! I hope to see you at one or several of our upcoming Vegan for Her events in this beautiful state.
If you’re in Napa, CA, email me because I’m planning something for July, too, and if you’re in metro-NYC, I’d love to see you on Sunday, July 21 in Tarrytown, NY!

Colorado Springs, along with the vegan and vegetarian group, are lucky to have you JL. Thanks for all you’re doing to increase awareness in the community – classes, meetups, write-ups, positive energy, local philanthropy and so much more. I’ll be thinking of you as you launch your book and wishing I was there to celebrate with you. I can’t wait to add Vegan for Her to my “library” of vegan books.
Thank you so much, @disqus_6g50DKcvNB:disqus! You were a big reason I felt at home right away. Wishing you were here, too, but I love reading about your vegan adventures in Germany!
It was a GREAT hike! Still not sure I’m sold on those evil peppers though… 😉 Can’t wait for my autographed copy of the book!
Ha, @disqus_OVSwN88GCU:disqus! Dave bit into a pepper when he got home and got a wicked one, too. Yikes! Can’t wait to see you sooooon!
