Let’s do something fun!
I know that many of you who read this blog are vegetarian, veg-curious, or are family and friends who have no intention of going vegan.
Well, how about going vegan for seven days?
My friends at Compassion Over Killing have a fabulous campaign going on: US VegWeek is April 22 – 28. I want you to pledge to go vegan for seven days! If you do, you will be entered to win a free, 45-minute vegan lifestyle coaching session with me via Skype or phone. If the winner is from Colorado Springs it’s a 60-minute in-person coaching session!
So, what do you need to do to enter? Two things:
- You MUST take the pledge using this link.
- You must leave a comment below on what you hope to experience during the seven week challenge.
Pledge and enter by April 10 to receive free veg product coupons and food samples. Contest closes April 20 at 12pm EST. (The kind folks at Compassion over Killing will not give away your email addresses – promise! They will only share the email address of this giveaway winner.)
So, what are you waiting for? Take the pledge and then leave me a comment below.

US VegWeek Kicks Off April 22 with Thousands Taking a 7-day VegPledge
Washington, DC—There are 52 weeks in a year. Why not make one of them vegetarian? That’s the idea behind US VegWeek, a nationwide campaign empowering thousands of people from coast to coast to pledge to choose vegetarian foods for at least seven days as a way to discover the many benefits and flavors of meat-free eating.
This year’s US VegWeek, which launches on Earth Day, comes on the heels of a United Nations report urging the developed world to cut their meat intake in half in order to avoid continuing down a path leading to serious environmental damage. US VegWeek provides a fun and supportive opportunity for pledgers to explore delicious meat-free meals while receiving support, recipes, tips—and for those who sign up before April 10—free veg product coupons and food samples as well.
Public officials are also celebrating by taking the 7-day VegPledge, including US Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-3), California State Senator Ted Lieu, California Assemblymember Das Williams, Maryland State Senator Jamie Raskin, Takoma Park, Md., Mayor Bruce Williams and Annapolis, Md., Mayor Josh Cohen, among others.
Dozens of businesses nationwide—from Gracias Madre in San Francisco to The House in Little Rock, Ark. and Pete’s New Haven Style Apizza in Washington, D.C. —are offering VegWeek specials, and everyone is invited to attend free events that include cooking demos, bake sales, movie screenings, and more.
Compassion Over Killing, a national nonprofit animal protection organization, first launched VegWeek in 2009 with inspiration from Md. Sen. Raskin. He was the first person to take the 7-day Veg Pledge—a pledge he’s kept to this day. Energized by his new vegetarian diet, which he refers to as “aligning my morals with my menu,” Sen. Raskin continues to encourage others make kinder, cleaner, and healthier food choices.
Several cities and counties have also expressed their support for US VegWeek through official proclamations including Washington, D.C., Tucson, Ariz., Montgomery County, Md, and Charlottesville, Va.
“Every time we sit down to eat, we can stand up for our health, the planet, and animals simply by choosing vegetarian foods,” says COK’s Executive Director Erica Meier. “And US VegWeek offers a fun and supportive way to get started.”

I hope to transition from vegetarian to vegan and overcome any challenges that arise.
I want to lower my blood pressure and feel better.
Thank you for sponsoring a contest for a lifestyle coaching session. I live in Denver and have been a vegetarian for most of my adult life. I have a desire to transition to vegan, but every time i try i have terrible food cravings. I am hoping one day to get over my cravings and become 100% vegan.
I just signed the pledge and today is DAY 1! I’m hoping to feel better, digest better, and lose a few lbs. Most of all, I want to make this a permanent lifestyle. Here I go!
I already eat close to vegan, but I’ve never tried to be 100%. I’m curious to see how far off I am, based on how much effort this takes.
I currently eat vegan at home and whenever possible. My biggest challenges are during family and other social gatherings. Love the inspiration and encouragement I get via your blog. Thanks for the link to the pledge!
I have been vegetarian for a few years, so am interested in how vegan will affect me internally and externally.
