All is Revealed Part 1: New Business = Go Vegan with JL! (Vegan Lifestyle Coaching Session GIVEAWAY)

Post image for All is Revealed Part 1: New Business = Go Vegan with JL! (Vegan Lifestyle Coaching Session GIVEAWAY)

by JL Fields on July 16, 2012

This past spring I did something somewhat quietly. I started my own business.  Some of you figured it out through my Facebook and Twitter updates but, overall, I made the move discreetly.  Last week I wrote about my big professional changes, in broad strokes, for the career section of BlogHer.com. If you haven’t read my piece How I Retired Before I Retired, please do so, as it will give context to what I’m about to announce.  I’ll wait here while you read it.

Welcome back!

I launched JL Fields Consulting

to allow me to choose exciting projects in the professional sectors that I have worked in, and excelled in, for over 20 years:  nonprofit management and higher education instruction and administration. I designed a business model in which I would spend 50% of my professional time consulting in these sectors and make a modest living

Why only half of my time?  Because I was ready to diversify my work life. I wanted to take a leap and try to earn an income from my dedication to vegan outreach and education.  I thought about my talents and strengths – writing and teaching came to mind immediately.  This would be an opportunity to expand my vegan-centered food, health, and wellness writing.  But to consider teaching, or, more broadly, educating, in the area, I needed to acquire more knowledge myself.  Last month I enrolled in, and completed, the inaugural 40+ hour training at Victoria Moran’s Main Street Vegan Academy.

The training experience was profound for me. In fact, this is what I shared with Victoria at the conclusion of the training:

Enrolling in MSVA was my logical next step as a vegan blogger (jlgoesvegan.com), writer and activist. My intention was not to become a vegan lifestyle coach but rather to be a better advocate and educator on how to live a compassionate life. I found the course enlightening and empowering and, it turns out, I now feel emboldened to begin a vegan lifestyle coaching practice.” – JL Fields , VLC, Westchester County, NY

Friends, I am one of a handful of certified Vegan Lifestyle Coaches!

I am thrilled to announce and share my new vegan lifestyle coaching practice with you today! Below you can read about my practice and the change I hope to make in the world.  To celebrate my “early retirement” with JL Fields Consulting and specifically Go Vegan with JL!  I am giving away TWO single, 45-minute vegan lifestyle coaching sessions!

Be sure to read all the way to the end for giveaway instructions, as well as a big hint about my next professional “reveal.”  Read on…

  • jessica

congratulations, JL! the way you are going after your dreams and passions is INSPIRING!

    • JL

      Thank you!

  • Teresa R.

Very exciting! I’ve been loving all the recipes you’ve been posting. Do your consultations include vegan aspects beyond food (i.e. cosmetics, household products, clothing, etc.)? And where, geographically, are you located?

    • JL

      Thank you, Teresa! And yes! coaching topics include health, diet, and meal plans; kitchen tips, tricks and techniques;
living in the world as a social vegan; keeping a compassionate home; and
more. While I am located in NY, I am offering personal coaching through phone or Skype, primarily but, if in NY, I would be happy to provide in-person as an alternative!

  • The personal coaching sounds great! I think I have mostly mastered the food aspect of veganism, but it’s all the others that trip me up. I’d love help on beauty products, clothes, etc.

    • JL

That is why I really loved the training. It was well-rounded and covered all aspects of living vegan. I like to say that it helped me learn how to educate others on taking compassion beyond the plate!

  • I think the Vegan 101 Workshops sound pretty awesome, I wish there was something like that in person out here, I would love to not only get the chance to learn something new but meet other vegans!

    • JL

I plan to do some of them as part of the group coaching sessions – to build community, if only online!

      • Online is still pretty great too! Keep us posted on when they happen for sure!

        • JL

          I will!

Wow! I like the sounds of the 9 month program. It takes a while to get into a new lifestyle, it’s nice that you would be there to discuss any bumps in the road.

      Thanks, Melissa!

  • Congratulations, my friend!

  • Pingback: All is Revealed Part 2: New Book = Recipe Testers Needed!()

  • JL! I am truly excited for this venture. I think you are paving the way for more people to break away and really follow their true passion — this is SO IMPORTANT! So many people live meaningless lives to build someone else’s dream and I absolutely love seeing that you are not one of them. You have clearly “done your homework” and are prepared for the long haul. I cannot WAIT to hear about this book deal! It has been so great to see your recipes over the years, but even more stellar to see your devotion to activism and desire for a compassionate community flourish. CONGRATULATIONS! • gaileee

We are new on this path to vegetarian/vegan food style. Daughter had us watch Forks Over Knives, and already in one’s month time, my hubby’s cholesterol is down about 30 points. I need some cooking motivation and such, and also to know what is good for menopause/soy foods etc.! Thanks! Gaileee

    • JL

      Gaileee, how remarkable!

  • Christine S

This is so wonderful. Congrats on all that you have been able to do. I would be thrilled to win this wonderful opportunity.

    • JL

      Thank you, Christine!

  • I am so thrilled for you that you are embarking on this new adventure. Congratulations and all the best. I am a vegan “newbie” – having made the transition (and commitment this April). There is so much to know, I hope I am lucky enough to win the opportunity to learn from your vast experience. Fingers crossed.

    • JL

Marjorie, YOU are one of the reasons I made this big move in my life – one email from you many months ago got the wheels turning!

  • Congrats to you! I have just come across your blog as I am flirting with a vegan lifestyle…

    • JL

Thank you, Amy! I hope your flirtation turns to dating and marriage! 😉

  • Lolly Busey

I would love to win a free session! I have been a vegetarian for almost seventeen years and vegan for the last 3-4 years. I need to lose more than 100 pounds. People always ask me, “if you are vegan, then how come you’re fat?” I remind them that potato chips are vegan and I have an addiction to food. I need a plan to get on track, to get my act together, and lose this weight once and for all with a plant based diet. I want to be that vegan who is a role model for others and for the lifestyle. Thanks, JL, I love your blog!
    ~Lolly

    • JL

Lolly, thanks for your comment! I profess to many that I am not a skinny vegan. I think there’s a lot of bunk out there that vegan = skinny. Having said that, you’re right, there is a difference in how one eats on a vegan diet and I hear you on wanting to find healthful foods. Let’s stay in touch, okay?

  • jacqui

congrats on your new business! I wish you success! I have been vegetarian for a bit now, and would love to move to a more vegan diet. I have some health issues that make it tough to know what to eat.. this would be awesome!

    • JL

Oh, Jacqui, exciting about exploring the vegan side of things …keep me posted!
