This week’s Vegan Links and News
Here a few items I found of interest this week:
- Wait. What? Invitro-hamburgers?
- The NYC Veg Fest is NEXT weekend! I will be there! Will you?
- Stephanie of Vegan Mainstream shared this great article about her parents: V For Veg: African Americans are indeed in the vegan mix.
- In nutrition news: 6 Ways To Sneak More Omega-3′s Into Your Diet (Even If You’re Vegan) falls in the good news category and In Rice, How Much Arsenic Is Too Much? in the “uh oh” news category. I started using brown rice syrup after taking a 3-day intensive cooking program with Christina Pirello. She shared some thoughts on the brown rice debate this week.
- I’m so excited that the Our Hen House flock has expanded! James E. McWilliams, author of Just Food: Where Locavores Get It Wrong and How We Can Truly Eat Responsibly (Little, Brown) and A Revolution in Eating: How the Quest for Food Shaped America (Columbia University Press), has joined the Advisory Board!
Confession time. My list of links and news is short because I’m spending the weekend at the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. (Guess who else recently visited The Guesthouse at WFAS? The Vegan Zombie!)
This week on the blogs
JL goes Vegan
- MONDAY: Two years vegan! To mark my 730 days of veganism I pledged to raise $730 dollars for the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary! Please join me!
- TUESDAY: Cinnamon-Ginger Seitan & Veggies in Coconut Gravy This is my first seitan creation! For those of you who do not use a pressure cooker, be sure to check out the comments. A kind reader made the recipe this week (and loved it!) stove top!
- WEDNESDAY: Sloppy Joe? Maid-Rite? How about a Sloppy Sandwich Made Just Right? This recipe sort of just “happened” and it’s a new favorite! My omnivore husband has devoured multiple vegan “loose meat” sandwiches this week!
- THURSDAY: Creamy Squash and Apple Soup Perhaps one of my favorite quick and easy soup recipes!
Stop Chasing Skinny
- TUESDAY: Micheline’s Story {Pursuing health instead of chasing skinny} Her gallbladder changed her life.
- THURSDAY: My post The year I stopped chasing skinny made the DailyBuzz Health You Vs. The Scale issue!
- FRIDAY: Meg’s Story {Pursuing health instead of chasing skinny} She stopped counting!
Next week on Stop Chasing Skinny I will share two more community member posts– inspiring women who are pursuing health instead of chasing skinny. In March I will share your stories on why you have stopped chasing skinny. Please submit your story today!
I hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday! I’m awake before the animals.
But soon, I will head out give hugs and kisses to the WFAS critters before heading home. Oh, did I mention I’m trying to raise a little money for them? And that YOU, dear readers, ROCK?
I announced this campaign on Monday — to raise $730 for WFAS to celebrate my 730 days of begin vegan — and yesterday we surpassed our goal! Thank you, thank you! This a one month campaign so there is no reason we can’t raise even more — if you’re inspired to give, please do!
Guess what’s on the blog tomorrow? A new Vegan 101 post! You’re going to love it!
