Vegan Product Reviews: The Rooster Potato and Pipernilli Cookies

One of the fun things about blogging is being offered samples – food, healthy and beauty items, appliances, etc. – to test and review. I like doing vegan product reviews because it’s way to share new-to-me items with you. Last week I was introduced to The Rooster Potato and Pipernilli Cookies.

Today’s Vegan Product Reviews

The Rooster Potato

I can’t lie. When I got the PR email announcing a new potato as “Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Cholesterol Free, Fat Free, Vegan,” I had to laugh. Is this what it’s come to? We have to label vegetables as gluten-free and vegan? Then I thought good for them! They are aware of food trends and are reaching out to specific groups, like the vegans!

The Rooster Potato is a new varietal:

It is not russet or a red potato – it is nutty, buttery and delicious  – the cream of the crop specialty potato varietal.
  • The Rooster potato starts pink, but bakes golden brown, with a light yellow fluffy flesh.
  • A most versatile potato that can be baked, boiled, mashed, roasted, or fried.

With the skin, potatoes contain 4 grams of fiber and include vitamin C, B6, iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, thiamin, riboflavin, zinc, boron, copper and folate. Boasting a nutty and buttery taste, this potato-loving vegan was ready to give them a try.

I made a potato, lentil, apple soup – with some serious kick – in the pressure cooker in under ten minutes. Delicious! And you know what? The Rooster Potatoes do have a smooth, buttery texture!

Pipernilli Cookies

These delicate, perfectly-proportioned Pipernilli Cookies are fantastic!

Pipernilli bakes soft, gooey and fresh from the oven vegan cookies in delicious flavors. Rochester native and Brooklyn resident Sherrita Davis’ love for the cookie inspired the creation of recipes for both classic cookie flavors like chocolate chip, peanut butter, and oatmeal raisin, but then also created new flavors with her own twist, using organic fruits and vegetables, which are very popular. These include banana chiffon, the cashmere drop sweet potato cookie, and more. Using only the freshest organic and fair trade ingredients Pipernilli pushes the perception of what most people think of vegan baked goods. With an emphasis on elevated flavors, the cookies are made fresh weekly and delivered beautifully in signature biodegradable packaging.

The flavors are creative and tasty!

I particularly loved the banana chiffon and cashmere drops but, truthfully, I loved them all. These treats really are a treat, as a dozen Cashmere Drops cost $9.50, plus shipping  (New York City residents can get a delivery the next day). I will definitely keep Pipernilli Cookies in mind next time I want to send a gift to someone special.

  1. I recently discovered the rooster potato just before Thanksgiving. I watched Happy Herbivore cook up some red potatoes her YouTube channel & developed a craving. Well, I always buy organic potatoes, but had already done my weekly shopping. I live within walking distance of a Wal-Mart though, so walked over and found these “new” potatoes. They are really pretty and I think they taste fantastic. It’s also good to know that produce beyond the ordinary is available even at Wal-Mart!
