Soy and Sake (NYC) with the women of Our Hen House

Good morning! I hope you had a chance to check out the piece that The Snarky Chickpea wrote for Stop Chasing Skinny yesterday:  Meg’s Story {Skipping the January Diet}.  I’m loving the thoughtful pieces on embracing one’s body in January instead of depriving it.

Speaking of not depriving my body…

Sunday evening Dave and I bundled up and headed into Manhattan for dinner with Jasmin and Mariann, the co-founders of Our Hen House.   I am a devoted listener to their podcast and it was fun to learn more about the future of Our Hen House.

Jasmin suggested we meet and Soy and Sake and I am so glad she did!

Bourbon "chicken"

"Crab" rangoon

Lettuce wraps

Southern "chicken" sandwich

Tofu salad (and some type of spring roll)

"Chicken" Parmesan Hero

Sushi

What a feast for four! This meal was fantastic – great prices for big food! Truth be told, Dave and I were the ones who chowed down on the “junkier” food (yeah, we went with sandwiches at a Pan-Asian joint…so?!) while we admired Jasmin and Mariann’s choices of hearty, healthy salads and sushi.

The highlight of the evening, though, was the conversation.  Listening to these bright, passionate and compassionate women each week has catapulted my activism on behalf of animals.  Please make sure you subscribe to the Our Hen Housen podcast (and leave a review while you’re there!) and come back here to let me know what you think. I believe you’ll be inspired to action.

Wow – that looks amazing! I wish we had more vegan options in my area that serve such creative food, your restaurant reviews always make me drool. I obviously need to move to NYC. :)

Foodgasm!! There’s just too many good restaurants there. I don’t think 3 days will be enough. Those those ladies! Can’t wait to get my vegan necklace for Our Hen House!

Right?!  So many choices!  I ordered a necklace, too! Can’t wait to wear it loud and proud!

Every time I think I’ve heard of all the cool NYC vegan spots, I find out about another one! I personally don’t care for the fake stuff but I am glad it’s out there and I know a lot of people love it, sounds like a great place for that.

It’s a fun spot in a great neighborhood and I, for one, LOVE the fake stuff! :)
