Vegan MoFo 2013 VIDEO #2: Multivore Transitions

Here is Vegan MoFo VIDEO #2: Multivore Transitions.

Yep, we have some news in this household and I talk about it in today’s video.

And in the video I mention that I made my first home cooked meal in the new place today – Sweet Potato and Seitan Hash.

This was thrown together quickly with what I had on hand. I heated extra virgin olive oil in a large skillet and sautéed about a cup of celery for three minutes (I didn’t have any onion on hand!). I added about 1/4 cup of veggie broth (homemade), a package of frozen, diced sweet potatoes, and about 4 ounces of homemade seitan; I cooked the hash on high for about five minutes, covered and then reduced the heat to simmer for about eight minutes.  I spooned it over two plates of chopped romaine – serves two! – and it was fantastic! And Dave-approved!

  1. Love the quote “progress, not perfection”. Even the most veteran vegans are not perfect. I think that is all part of being human…growing and learning. I am lucky that my partner is vegan. I am not quite sure what I would do if he wasn’t.

  2. Awesome news! That’s exactly the same situation I have at my house. My husband eats vegetarian and keeps cheese in the house (he has his own compartment in the fridge) and whenever we have guests, we do all vegan. Of course, I’m the one who cooks all our meals, which means they’re always vegan 🙂 Lucky for you, your hubby cooks too!

  3. JL,

Your videos have been awesome!! I’m loving them! Thank you, for doing this. I really liked the quick green smoothie video. That was awesome…showing just how fast and easy it can be to have a delicious and nutritious meal. And, I love love love this one with you just talking with us about multivore transitions/homes. You know what, I love when someone just sits and talks with me about any aspect of veganism. And, this video was like a warm hug and a supportive talk with a supportive, dear, friend. I loved when you talked about this being about (I’m totally paraphrasing) “you” not “your family”, etc., etc. “do what’s right for you” and how you said you are vegan and your husband is not completely (yet!) but that “you know what we make it work”. I LOVE that! Thanks for chatting with us. You are so lovable in the videos (as always), and you flow with what’s going on around you, and your kitchen is looking just wonderful.

Did I hear it was your birthday today (9/3)? Happy Birthday!!
    Love,
    Patty

  4. I was catching up on your blog this morning and watched this video. It was just the message I needed to hear today, so THANKS, very much. My partner is driving me insane, seriously. When we first got together he would try everything I made, loved most of it, and ate vegan at home because that’s what was prepared. I never asked him to, although I figured if he wanted to eat (at least eat without having to cook for himself), he would try my food. He never complained. I’ve tried to discuss the benefits of a plant based diet, as I do with everyone, including my 8 year old grandson. Lately though, he turns his nose up at everything, he pushes it around his plate, making petulant faces, and whining, “what’s IN this?”. On the weekend we actually had a spat about it, with me telling him, “you don’t have to eat anything I cook, just cook your own food”. It really had my hackles up, so your video helped me calm down and take things easier. I’m going to try not to let it get to me and I owe that to you.

    1. @kmb2030:disqus, that is so tough and I’m really glad you found the video! I think your response was perfect. You’re not telling him what to eat – you’re inviting him to eat what you make. He’s a grown up and make what he wants! Does he like to cook? The way I got my husband involved was by being playful – “Will you make me something vegan?” – and he got into it! 🙂
