Long time no see, green smoothie

It’s been a long time since I’ve had a green smoothie. Dare I say I may have burnt myself out on them?

I tend to get into a rut routine with breakfast: smoothies every single day, miso soup every single day, or porridge every single day.  My daily work schedule has changed recently and I’m trying adjust some of my eating patterns accordingly. Enter the long-lost green smoothie.

What’s in it?

  • Almond milk (about a cup)
  • Spinach (a handful)
  • Chia seeds (I poured them in, maybe 2 tablespoons?)
  • Banana (a whole one)
  • Apple (a whole one, cored)
  • Pineapple (I had a few pieces leftover from a fruit salad)
  • Tons of ice

I tossed all of this into the Vita-Mix and minutes later I was reminded why I love green smoothies.  Flavorful and filling!

This made enough for two smoothies, so I stored the rest in a mason jar in the refrigerator. For breakfast today. Not that I’m going to get into a rut or anything.

I’m off to Manhattan for a day of meetings with all kinds of compassionate folks!  I’ll see the women behind Our Hen House later this morning, a friend from PETA mid-day, and the force behind The Seed: A Vegan Experience in the afternoon.  Have a wonderful Friday, friends!

  1. Ahhh… going through the same thing I have been. Just been drinking green smoothies every single day forever and ever! So I took a month off and switched it up with some whole oats and I think it is time to get back on the wagon. This time trying new recipes more often and even going for a more warming flavor using cinnamon, clove and nutmeg- doesn’t sound like it goes with greens but it does!

  2. Gorgeous photos, JL! Gotta love the green smoothie. Are you saying that your hubby doesn’t drink the leftovers? Hope you had a fun day!

    1.  Thanks, Carrie!  Dave has been out of the house and in his office for hours before I get  around to making my breakfast!

  3. It looks nice and green and healthy. There is so many ways to make green smoothies. I like to try them all so i never get tired of them.

  4. I am SO with you, sister. You have your smoothies – I have my chocolate protein pudding oats. If it ain’t broke and your tummy is happy, don’t fix it and feed it. 😉 Sounds like an incredible day, JL! Have an awesome weekend.

  5. I envy your day of meetings with activism oriented vegans! And I’m so excited that I just got on board to be a Seed speaker. I can’t wait.

    1.  I’m so glad you’re speaking at The Seed! I’m really honored to be involved with the effort!

  6. JL-just caught this post! I too have not been able to make my morning green smoothie for months and months. And it makes me so sad. I think I burned out on them. I hope your post inspires me to go back . . .
