Friday Finds 8/10/12: Sanctuaries in the news + A fabulous vegan nutrition visual

On this early Friday morning I decided to share a few vegan “finds” of the week!

You may have heard that Jenny Brown, co-founder and executive director of Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, has written The Lucky Ones, out this week.  Here’s a video about the book:

My local Patch wrote a story about Jenny and the book (with a little bit about yours truly): Getting Acquainted With Your Food: Mamaroneck Resident Recounts Her Journey to Veganism.

Speaking of sanctuaries, I got an email this morning from the fine folks at Herbivore Clothing Company about an in-store and online shopping event – tomorrow! – in which proceeds will help three sanctuaries.

Your donations make a huge difference to the 3 sanctuaries we’re donating to this year! For example, a $25 donation will feed a pig at Out To Pasture Sanctuary for two weeks. A $50 donation will cover the fuel costs for a day of cruelty investigations and rescue at Project Hope Sanctuary. A $100 donation covers the cost of soymilk for a month’s worth of fruit smoothies for the chimpanzees (like Foxie, pictured above!) at Chimp Sanctuary Northwest.

Read all about the fundraiser here and be sure to shop on August 11 to support this great effort.

To that age-old question “Where do you get your protein?” I just had to share this great PETA visual I stumbled upon on Facebook:

Wondering About a Vegan Diet?

I went shopping yesterday and have everything I need for my cooking demo tomorrow! Have you had a chance to check out my Cucumber and Onion Quinoa Salad?

You can still vote online for this recipe – or stop by the John Jay Homestead Farm Market in Katonah, NY tomorrow for a sample!

Have a great Friday!
