Face plant on the sidewalk

Yesterday morning I headed out for a short run. It was still dark out but I knew it would be light about mid-way into the run. I usually walk through my neighborhood to warm up and I have a spot where I stop, touch my toes and then begin my run.  I walk on the street to my spot to avoid the dark sidewalks.  Yesterday I was cold so I decided to jog to my spot, instead of walk, to warm up my body.  I saw the recycling truck coming down the street so I moved to the sidewalk.  I neared my “spot” and picked up the pace.  And tripped.

I landed on my face. On my hand and arms. On my right thigh.

I’m fine.

My body is bruised but my ego is not.

I’m really, really happy I have long bangs.

    1. LOL, yep, Good ole Disqus catches a lot of spam for me by holding replies with links. You know the ones “I like post very much. You are very smart.  Click here for weightloss pills” LMAO

  1. I did see it!  It falls in line with with what most of my high raw friends (and chefs who I’ve taken classes with) have said — high or higher raw, not 100% raw.

    1. Thank you for normalizing the situation! LOL Last “big one” was on a bike and required a plastic surgeon. This was a walk in the park, in comparison!

  2. I did the same thing a couple of years ago.  It wasn’t pretty but it still ended up on the blog.   Feel better fast.

  3. Yikes, so sorry! Glad you’re okay, tripping is never fun! I almost wiped out of a sidewalk crack during my last run and sadly that was during daylight! 🙂

  4. Jl- I love that your blog is so honest!  hope your run today went better and that you are healing.

    1. My coach, the husband, advised against running this morning (my leg and neck are stiff)  but I will be up for a run Sunday — just not sure it will be five miles!

  5. Ouch – I saw your pic on FB yesterday – know that had to hurt. I’ve tripped and fallen a few times over the years on runs, so easy to do and so embarrassing (and painful). So sorry that you hit your face too! 🙁

  6. When you run at night, trucks can be hazardous. When trucks are hazardous, you move to the sidewalk. When you move to the sidewalk, you trip and fall. When you trip and fall, you land on your face. When you land on your face, you wake up in a roadside ditch.Don’t wake up in a roadside ditch.Run during the day.

    1. Good advice, Terry! I’ll see if I can quit thet day job so I don’t have to run in the dark at 5 am. 😉

  7. Ouch. I’m so glad you didn’t break anything but your stride. A friend just took a tumble and broke her fibula. Hope you heal fast and stay safe.

    1. Thanks!  The face wound was the most embarrassing; the elbow bruise has been the longest lasting ouchie. Tough being an athletic wannabe 🙂

  8. It’s the year of falling!
I face planted on NYE and broke a bone in my chin!! There are bruise pictures on my blog. Battle wounds definitely make you feel like a bad ass 🙂
