Books

If you are a new vegan, considering a vegan diet/lifestyle or even a long-time vegan I highly recommend my absolute favorite book on veganism:  Vegan for Life:  Everything you need to know to be healthy and fit on a plant-based diet  by Jack Norris, RD and Ginny Messina, MPH, RD.  It has answered my nutrition questions and provides me great guidance on living a balanced, healthy, vegan lifestyle.

Did you really like ‘Skinny Bitch’? I heard so many bad things about it, that I’m kinda curious for your ideas about it :)

I think Skinny Bitch has appeal. Not everyone begins eating vegan for ethics. I think Rory does a good job of speaking to the health reasons for eating vegan and beginning the dialogue around ethics. I also think her tips help a new vegan set up her pantry and kitchen and to learn some tasty recipes. Is it my favorite book in my collection? No. Did I get something out of it? Certainly!

Hi, JL.  I’m so grateful to find your blogs.  As a 40+ runner and aspiring vegan, I find your writing and outlook to be a real inspiration.  Thank you for creating a blog and community that I can personally relate to.  I’m also delighted that give recognition to Vegan for Life.  This fantastic, accessible book hasn’t received–in my opinion–nearly enough attention.

Thank you, Paige! Yes, Vegan for Life is my go-to book now, particularly when I want to debunk a myth about the vegan diet!

Reading Skinny Bitch is what turned me from vegetarian to vegan. I have been vegetarian most of my life since i was about 8 and had a Horrible experience with a porkchop,i am now 39..After my son had a brain tumor when he was 2(8yrs ago) i started reading more and making everyone eat better, and was serious about becoming vegan. It’s been a long road, around 2007 i stuck with it after reading Skinny Bitch. I have to say i didn’t get much support,i have read a lot on my own and searched the internet for recipes and just come up with things to make. after joining facebook, then twitter and discovering different blogs i feel comfortable.Oh and when i lived in Fl Wholefoods was a lifechanger! But i do not have one near me where i am now and make do with my healthfood store anfd i think i do quite well and am happy and proud to be vegan.
