Meet the Colorado Springs Main Street Vegan® Academy Vegan Lifestyle Coaches & Educators! FREE WORKSHOP This FREE community workshop is designed to help you on your vegan journey! From the environment to food to self-care to powering the plant-based athlete, we’ve got your veg-issues covered! Each coach will provide a 20-minute presentation and then together will facilitate a Q&A session to answer your questions. Vegan food will be served, natch!

* Sports Nutrition for AthletesSports Nutrition for Athletes

Sports Nutrition (and cooking tips!) for the Plant-Based Athlete Are you an athlete (or athlete-wannabe) and new to a plant-based diet? This introductory sports nutrition workshop is designed to explain the nutrition needs for athletes and how those needs can be met on a plant-based diet. Throughout the 90-minute workshop there will be a cooking demo (food samples!) of recipes supportive of the principles you will learn to train better on plants! MEET THE INSTRUCTORS Coach Dave Burgess is an ISSA certified specialist in sports and performance nutrition, a Level 2 USA Triathlon coach, Level 3 US Masters Swimming coach, and Level 2 USA Cycling coach. Dave is the owner and head coach at Podium Training Systems where he offers individual coaching, video analysis (swim and run), and meal plans for athletes. Dave runs the Podium Swim Club at Cheyenne Mountain Aquatic Center. JL Fields is a vegan lifestyle coach & educator and author of Vegan Pressure Cooking (Fair Winds Press, January 2015), co-author of Vegan for Her: The Woman’s Guide to Being Healthy and Fit on a Plant-Based Diet, and contributor to Running, Eating, Thinking: A Vegan Anthology. JL has studied at the Natural Gourmet Institute and Organic Avenue, and completed the Intensive Study Program at The Christina Pirello School of Natural Cooking and Integrative Health Studies. She is certified by – and on the faculty of – the Main Street Vegan Academy, is certified as a Food for Life Instructor by Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and holds a Master of Science degree. JL Fields is a vegan lifestyle coach & educatorFood for Life instructor, personal chef, career coach, and a corporate consultant offering wellness training, brand representation, and strategic planning services. She is the author of Vegan Pressure Cooking (Fair Winds Press, January 2015)co-author of Vegan for Her: The Woman’s Guide to Being Healthy and Fit on a Plant-Based Diet (Da Capo Lifelong Books, July 2013)contributor to Running, Eating, Thinking: A Vegan Anthology (Lantern Books, May 2014), and a food, health and wellness freelance writer.

She is on the fitness faculty at the Center for Creative Leadership, the online strategist for The Soyfoods Council, the Education Coordinator for Nourish Organic Juice, and served as the Plant-Based Team Leader for Attune Foods.

JL speaks on plant-based food and vegan activism, fitness and body image, making big changes post-40, blogging, and nonprofit management at festivals, farm markets, community organizations, and colleges and universities. She has been interviewed for TV, radio, and podcasts including FOX-31 Denver’s Everyday, KVOR’s Table TalkMain Street Vegan on Unity.FM, Our Hen House, and Erin Red Radio.  JL shares plant-based education, recipes and cooking techniques, as well as animal rights information and resources, on the popular blog JL goes Vegan and launched the first vegan weekly online column “I Eat Plants” for the Life and Style section of The Journal News (Westchester, NY).  She is the editor of the community blog Stop Chasing Skinny.

JL is the owner and lead consultant for JL Fields Consulting: Strategic Services for the Nonprofit and Education Sectors and she offers career coaching to people who are ready to re-imagine work and to professionalize their passions.
